What you pay as a member of Emballageretur

Emballageretur’s environmental fees are determined each year and announced to our members by 1 October.

Our environmental fee includes the following costs:

• The municipalities’ costs for collecting household waste (including costs for planning, communication and administration)

• Emballageretur’s costs for handling (transport, sorting and treatment) of packaging waste by material category

• Emballageretur’s costs associated with paying compensations to companies for commercial packaging waste

• Administrative costs (including security deposits) related to managing packaging waste

The prices are valid from 1 January – 31 December 2026, and are exclusive of VAT.

Therefore, there is a requirement that as a collective scheme we must modulate the fees you pay to us to cover the costs associated with waste handling in Denmark.

The eco-modulated fees are structured as a bonus/penalty system. The modulated fee is the price you as a member must pay for handling your packaging waste when you put packaging on the market that ends up in the red level. The modulated fee is +35 % of the operational costs. Anyone who does not have documentation that their packaging belongs to the green or yellow level will be charged the price for the red level.

In addition to the environmental fees, an annual membership fee of DKK 1,500 is charged per member, no matter how many of our collective schemes one is a member of. At Emballageretur, we do not charge a start-up fee when you join.

All companies must, in addition to their costs for the collective scheme, also pay annual fees to Dansk Producentansvar and the Environmental Protection Agency. Emballageretur does not collect these annual fees.

New members must also pay a registration fee to Danish Producer Responsibility when they are registered via our membership portal (Returportalen).
